Our 2012 estate-grown Viognier – a perennial favorite here at Cass – is a classic example of this rich, aromatic variety and showcases the perfect balance that can be achieved from great fruit in a fine vintage. Over the years we have begun to pick our Viognier slightly less ripe to allow the aromatics to stay pure and focused and let the natural acidity of the grape shine through. 2012 was a warmer year, which produced concentrated, explosive aromatics of white rose, preserved lemon, clover honey, and white peach. The palate absolutely gushes with fresh fruit that spans peach, melon, sweet Meyer lemon, kiwi, and banana. Thanks to smart picking decisions, the wine still retains a core of tight acid that balances its medium bodied frame, keeping the wine fresh and vibrant as it soars onto clean, snappy finish.

As with our other 2011 white wines, our Roussanne showcases its brighter, leaner side thanks to an exceptionally cool vintage. Clean and tropical flavors of guava and banana give way to Meyer lemon and grated ginger. Favoring balance and drinkability over raw power, the palate has a zippy acid profile that allows the flavors of Tahitian lime, banana, lemon zest, and spice to really sing. The finish holds tightly to the mid palate and sails on with a burst of almond skin and minerality. We expect this wine to gain further complexity and depth with some short-term aging.

Ultra fresh and expressive of the classic Paso Robles “yummy factor,” the 2012 Rose is perhaps the juiciest version to date. Gorgeous aromatics of fresh watermelon, strawberry, ruby red grapefruit, candied blood orange, and fresh bread yeast are concentrated and pure. The palate echoes the nose, with a rich, round mouthfeel that still stays light on its feet thanks to a fresh acid backbone. A great contrast of red fruits and citrus, the wines most intriguing element may well be its round, soft structure, which lets the finish soar on with incredible length and texture

New Release!
Roussanne and Viognier routinely take center stage at the Cass Vineyard, and 2011 was one of the best years for white wines that Paso Robles has ever seen. Very cool summer weather preserved aromatics and acidity, while very late ripening helped flavors develop slowly. The result is the classical richness of Cass’s whites but with a touch more acidity and brightness. Intense aromatics of toasted almonds, honey, lemon curd, and buttercream are balanced by lighter notes of white rose, and white nectarine. The palate opens toasty and nutty at first, with baked pear, honey-glazed pastry, and fresh bread aromas but quickly moves into its crisper side, with explosive ripe lemon, crushed flowers, and snappy acidity. A savory touch brings up the back end, with a saline note that carries through on the long, long finish.

Delicate and medium-bodied, yet showcasing the classic elements of Cass Vineyard, the 2011 Grenache leans towards the spicier side of the variety with baking spice, bergamont tea, and pink peppercorn aromatics framed up by bright red strawberry and touches of old world meatiness. Medium-bodied and driven by sour cherry and strawberry jam on the palate, it showcases a satiny mouthfeel with bright acid and bursts of rose water and orange oil. The fruit echoes on the finish with warm notes and moderate tannins.
